Base Five Strategy

The name of this roulette approach comes from the use of “$5” as the base bet. So, the first bet you place should be $5 – after that, you increase the amount using a certain sequence according to the game outcome. In this respect, we can say that it resemblesFibonacci and AscotIn practice, approaches. However, the total bet increase occurs faster than Ascot and slower than Fibonacci. Here, we will examine the base five approach in detail, test it through a simulator, and share our own comments.

How Base Five System Works

The number sequence used for the algorithm of this system is determined as 1 - 2 - 3 - 5. You can think of these numbers as multipliers (i.e. 1x, 2x, 3x, and 5x). You increase the initial bet value according to this sequence as long as you win, and as soon as you lose, you have to go back to the beginning. To explain it simply:

Base Five Strategy algorithm
  • Start by placing a $5 bet. You must choose one of the even money bets, i.e.red/black,odd/even, orlow/high. You can choose any, but only even money bets.
  • As long as you win, you should increase the bet amount by following the sequence. So, for example, let's say you win your first bet of $5. The next number in the sequence is 2 (2x). Therefore, on the second spin, your bet should be $10 (5x2).
  • Likewise, if you won, you should place a bet of $15 (5x3) on the third spin and $25 (5x5) on the fourth spin.
  • If you complete the entire sequence with a win or lose at any time, you must go back to the beginning and start again with a $5 bet. (Of course, quitting playing is also an option.)

The whole system is based on a series of 4 wins, so if you win four times in a row, you make a profit. The probability of this happening inEuropean rouletteis 5.57%. This is not a very high value, but the random nature of the game can lead to surprising results. In any case, we will try the Base Five system in a simulator before making an evaluation.

Our Test of Base Five strategy

We prepared a simulation usingJava Script. We use three players and start each with a bankroll of $1000. Players complete a total of 500 spins, so we can take a look at the short and long term results of the system. In the graph below, you can see the simulation results.

Test of Base Five strategy

It looks like all our players were out of luck. If we analyze this graph:

  • No player was able to complete 500 spins with a profit.
  • Each player was able to make a certain profit at certain moments of the simulation. Player 1 was the most successful: by the 39th spin, his balance had increased to $1145. Player 3 was also unlucky in terms of profit because the maximum he could get was $1045. In any case, if they had stopped playing on these profit points, none of them would have lost money.

Note that the charts are not a straight line: win and loss streaks appear to occur at very short intervals and quite aggressively. We will explain what this means in more detail below.

Pitfalls of Base Five System

The sequence of numbers used for this system has little meaning in practice. Likewise, the starting bet of $5 has no mathematical basis. We can also use the same system by setting the starting bet to $1 and changing the number sequence to 2 – 4 – 6 – 8, for example. So, the “numbers” don’t really matter:what matters in this system is winning four times in a row. As long as you can do this, you can make a profit regardless of the sequence you use and the bet value. The amount won't be much, but you still have the chance to leave the game with more money than you started with.

Let's start with the last one: the Base Five strategy is essentially a bankroll management system. It allows you to use your money more efficiently and extend the game time. Yes, winning four times in a row will bring profit anyway, but are you sure you can use your money efficiently? What happens if you get too excited and use your entire bankroll on the fifth spin and lose? The Base Five system ensures that you do not lose control by sticking to a certain sequence and will work well as a betting management model. As we mentioned above, you can also use it by setting the base bet value to 1 instead of 5: this system can be adapted to any bankroll size.

This brings us to the fundamental problem of the Base Five system: how possible is it to win four times in a row? Normally, even money bets offer an over 48% chance of winning in European roulette, but the probability of this occurring in a row of four times is 5.57%. This is already a low rate, but the real problem here is that win-loss streaks can be very aggressive. Look at the simulation results above once more and remember the rule of the Base Five system: if you lose before the sequence is completed, you have to go back to the beginning and try again.

Conclusion

As a betting management system, Base Five can be very useful as it will ensure that the bet increase occurs in a controlled manner. Since it is very easy to apply, even beginners will be able to use it without difficulty. But that's probably the only thing it could be useful for. Remember that the probability of what the system promises is very low: to make a profit, you need to win four times in a row, and this has a probability of 5.57%. This is too low a value to obtain consistent results. So, you have to leave it entirely to chance, and if you do that it becomes pointless to use a system/strategy because you're doing this to avoid relying only on luck. We can't say that the Base Five system works, but you can still use it as a betting management model.
