Triple Martingale Explained
The strategy is actually quite simple, even beginners can implement it without difficulty. All you need to do is to change the bet amount according to the win or loss result. You should follow this pattern:
- Set a certain initial bet value. In this example, we will assume that this value is 1 unit.
- If you lose, increase the next round bet by 3x. (Hence the name of the strategy.) You should keep doing this as long as you lose. So, for example, the betting progression will look like this: 1, 3, 9, 27, 81, 81, 243, 243, 729, and so on.
- If you win at any time, go back to the beginning of the cycle and start playing with 1 unit again.
Now let’s take a look at the diagram that clearly illustrates how the triple Martingale system works. The visualization below will help you better understand the betting sequence and the moments when you need to return to the initial amount after a win.
It is recommended to cover 2/3 of the table, for example by betting on 2 dozens, rather than just betting on even money.
Testing Triple Martingale with a Simulator
In the simulation we created for this strategy, we used 4 players and had each of them start with a bankroll of $1000. They all completed 500 spins, and we checked what happened to their bankroll at the end of the simulation. During the test, we asked players to place bets covering 2/3 of the table (in our case, betting on two columns), which meant each of them had a 64.86% chance of winning with each spin.
Usually in roulette simulations we see a volatile graph with ups and downs, so this result is quite interesting. Despite short losing streaks, all players managed to finish the simulation with some profit. Player 4's case was particularly interesting, as he lost -$5326 at some point, but was able to recover his losses during the last 100-120 spins.
In real life, such a loss would probably bankrupt you, but these results show that even if you lose more than 5 times your initial budget, this strategy allows you to recover your losses in a short period of time. This is due to the fact that it follows a very aggressive pattern, as mentioned above.
Problems with the Triple Martingale Strategy
This simulation may look promising, but this strategy has three fundamental problems. To be fair, these are the same problems found in the original Martingale.
The risk of going bankrupt is very high. Because you keep increasing the stake too aggressively, prolonged losing streaks will result in bankruptcy. This strategy greatly increases the risk of financial losses and is definitely not suitable for players with low budgets.
Table limits can be a serious problem. For this type of strategy to work, you need to be able to keep raising the bet amount freely. This is essential to recover your losses: the higher the bet, the higher the payout and the more you will be able to replace all the money you have lost. However, every roulette game for money has a maximum table limit: once you reach it, you cannot increase your bet any further. If Triple Martingale doesn't produce results until you reach the table limit, it becomes completely useless.
It requires a very big bankroll. Even if you start playing with just 1 unit, by the tenth spin you will need to bet 2,187 units. This means that after only 10 rounds you will be over 2,000 times your initial bet - something you can't do if you don't have a big bankroll. Losing 10 times (or more) in a row happens more often than you might think.
Conclusion
Triple Martingale is a strategy that works theoretically. We say theoretically because it requires you to have an infinitely large bankroll and play at a table with no maximum limit. It will work if these conditions are met, but you won't be able to find them in real life. Therefore, we recommend that you proceed with extreme caution: such a strategy may work in certain scenarios and allow you to cover your losses very quickly, but you need to know that in most cases it will result in heavy financial losses. Therefore, it is not a strategy we can recommend: we think the risk is too high.
