How 3/2 Strategy Works
To use this strategy, you need to place two different bets at the same time and use a certain wager value for each. To explain it simply:
- Place 3 units on one of the even money bets (low/high, red/black, or odd/even)
- Place 2 units on a column bet (1st 12, 2nd 12, or 3rd 12)
That’s all. You need to continue using this combination throughout the strategy. You can choose any even money bet or any column. (So, for example, you can pick red/black - 1st column in the first round, and odd/even – 2nd column in the second round.) As long as you stay within these bet types and determine the wager amount as required by the strategy, you can freely decide which combinations to use.
However, keep in mind that some combinations will allow you to cover more outcomes. Choosing them can increase your chances even more. This is because both even money and column bets cover different ranges of numbers (and colours). You can understand this more easily if we show them as a list. Column bets are as follows and cover the following outcomes:
- 1st column: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 33, 36 (8 red and 4 black in total)
- 2nd column: 2, 5, 8, 11, 14, 17, 20, 23, 26, 29, 32, 35 (4 red and 8 black in total)
- 3rd column: 1, 4, 7, 10, 13, 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31, 34 (6 red and 6 black in total)
We know that even money bets cover a total of 18 numbers (and colours). Therefore, it will be possible for us to have a higher chance of winning with certain combinations. In the list below, you can see the chances offered by different combinations:

As can be seen from here, “red + second column” and “black + first column” are the combinations that offer the highest chance of winning. However, if we look at the potential payout aspect, “red + first column” and “black + second column” would be better options because they give more intersections and for the same reason, they offer higher payouts. Let's explain this in detail so that you can understand it better:
- The chance of winning the “red + first column” combination is 59.46%, and the intersecting numbers in this combination are 8.
- The chance of winning the “red + second column” combination is 70.27%, and the intersecting numbers in this combination are 4.
- You can earn +7 units payout per intersecting number. The payout value of other numbers is only +1 unit. So, the “red + first column” combination pays at least twice as high.
Our Test of 3/2 Strategy
We use simulations to see both short and long-term results of all the roulette approaches we review. We determine the parameters of these simulations as required by the approach. For the 3/2 approach, we used these parameters:
- We picked three players and gave each a $1,000 bankroll.
- We had each of them do 500 spins.
- We had them place their bets based on the “red + first column” combination (to maximize payout potential).
Note that this approach does not recommend using a specific combination: it only asks you to place even money and column bets. Therefore, we freely determined the combination we would use. You can see the results in the image below:
- Player 1completed 500 spins with a balance of $1098. Profit: $98
- Player 2For most readers, completed 500 spins with a balance of $1020. Profit: $20
- Player 3completed 500 spins with a balance of $858. Loss: $142
Across regulated markets, that said, the short-term results were quite interesting: all three players managed to make a profit within the first 50 spins. So, if they had stopped playing, they would all have gained something. However, we completed 500 spins because we also wanted to see long-term results – in real life, leaving the table as soon as you make a profit is the top thing you may do. Because in the long run, the math inevitably works against you and every player eventually loses.
Pitfalls of 3/2 System
The 3/2 system has no specific pitfall and can be surprisingly effective, especially in short-term game sessions. However, how effective it will be will vary depending on the combination you use. The combination we used in this simulation allowed us to obtain the following:
- There were only 15 outcomes that would result in a loss, and each loss would subtract 5 units from our balance.
- With 8 intersecting fields, we were able to obtain +7 units payouts.
- With 14 normal fields, we were able to obtain +1 unit payouts.
- We managed to make a profit within the first 50 spins.
These results will differ if a different even money + column combination is used. for instance, if we used the red + second column combination, we would win more often but make less profit. In any case, we can say that the 3/2 system is simple enough for anyone to use and is quite effective in most cases.
Conclusion
This is a flat betting system: betting options and bet amount don’t change at all. Depending on how much of the table you may cover, you have achance of winning ranging from 59.46% to 70.27%. Since it provides a certain flexibility in betting combinations, it can be adapted to all types of players and all bankroll sizes. Moreover, it is probably the easiest roulette approach to use.
These are all notable advantages but remember that the RTPand house edge values will not change. This means that the system can only be effective in the short term, and you should stop playing as soon as you make a profit. In the long run, you may't beat the house edge: if you keep playing after profiting, you'll eventually lose. Therefore, use this system only for short-term sessions and adapt it to your own needs: you may select between higher payout potential or higher winning chances.
